Maggi typically uses prosaic materials to create tiny works of art. One memorable piece, made primarily from aluminum foil and apples, is titled "Micro & Soft on Macintosh Apples." Because Maggi hails from Uruguay, the evening had a Spanish theme. At the reception, we felt like Barcelonans as we nibbled potato omelets and fish cakes, while we listened to the tunes of a Spanish guitarist. Marques de Caceres Rioja and Martinsancho Verdejo Rueda 1999 accompanied the tapas. Served in the courtyard of the museum's Café Sebastienne, dinner was a joint effort by General Manager Lisa Burgess and Executive Chef Jennifer Maloney. Lisa's knowledge of wine and Jennifer's ability to produce sumptuous flavor combinations made for a fabulous dining experience. The first course of chilled gazpacho was light and refreshing. Seasonal greens with blue cheese and sherry vinaigrette followed. The main course was Valencia paella, perfectly paired with Condado de Haza Ribera del Duero Crianza 1998. We finished with an apricot almond tart. At the end of the evening, we thanked Lisa, Jennifer, and the café staff for this wonderful Spanish feast. *** MENU TAPAS RECEPTION & SHOWING 7:00 P.M.
